On Demand
Participate in an African Dance fundamentals class that will engage your body, mind and spirit. We will focus on guided movement that can be defined as "indigenous movement" toward freedom on the West Indian islands of Jamaica and Haiti. Our class will progress with a spirited physical output as we look at the stylized and performative vestiges of rooted Afro-Caribbean dance.
Sadira Muhammad is a seasoned Chicago dance artist whose practice is
centered around Afro-Cultural movement accented by spoken phraseologies that
emphasize the history, culture ans spirituality of such danced phenomenons.
She has a specialty background in the field of Teaching Artistry where she integrates history and literature with cultural dance . She is on the adjunct faculty/guest lecturer roster for the study of dance at Governor’s State University and Columbia College Chicago. This work was spawned by her groundwork with the infamous Dance Africa Chicago festival of the early 2000’s and first hand witnessing it coming to a close. The continuation of “Dance Africa” as a source of kinesthetic and powerful knowledge sharing became a mission of hers.
